FIFA Women’s World Cup to inject $21 million into NSW visitor economy

More than 1.1 million tickets have been sold for the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™, but its benefits to the NSW visitor economy go far beyond seats in stadiums.

The tournament, which runs from 20 July to 20 August 2023, is estimated to bring more than 16,000 visitors to Sydney and inject more than $21 million into the state’s visitor economy.

Destination NSW has secured 11 matches for Sydney, including the final, the most of any host city. Stadium Australia, at Sydney Olympic Park, will kick off the excitement with the Matildas’ opening match against the Republic of Ireland on 20 July.

NSW Minister for Jobs and Tourism John Graham said: “The FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™ will help grow the state’s visitor economy and create jobs.

“This tournament has the potential to be one of the biggest sporting events in Sydney since the 2000 Olympics and the NSW Government is happy to support the FIFA Women’s World Cup 2023.”

Greater Sydney will also benefit from four training sites being chosen at ES Marks Athletics Field in Moore Park, Leichhardt Oval, Valentine Sports Park in Glenwood and Western Sydney Wanderers Centre of Football, which will be used by teams participating in the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™.

Investing in major events such as the FIFA Women’s World Cup Australia & New Zealand 2023™ is a strategic pillar of the NSW Visitor Economy Strategy 2030.
